Boggabri and Wee Waa Transfer Stations FAQs

Electronic gates have been installed at both Wee Waa and Boggabri Transfer Stations and are now operational, with a PIN system in place to access these transfer stations.

Council is planning to replace this PIN system with fob key entry and is continuing to work with the fob key provider regarding this access.

Council will continue to update the community regarding this process, including when the new fob key system is in place.

Why was access changed?

The electronic gates were introduced in response to residents’ concerns about the misuse of waste disposal at these transfer stations, predominately from out-of-Shire residents and businesses/contractors.

Who can access these transfer stations?

The Boggabri and Wee Waa transfer stations are open to residents and are only available for residents' household waste.

What waste can be disposed of at these transfer stations?

Household waste items accepted at all transfer stations:

  • Residential volumes of general waste

  • Residential volumes of comingled recycling

  • Residential volumes of scrap metal

  • Residential volumes of bulky household waste (furniture)

  • Residential volumes of organics

  • Residential volumes of motor oil

Why can’t businesses dispose of waste at these transfer stations?

Transfer stations are for household residents with and without a kerbside collection.

These transfer stations are designed and funded for light household waste only and not business and commercial volumes.

Businesses and commercial operators misusing transfer stations to dispose of waste continues to be an issue throughout the Shire.

Illegal disposal of waste by business and commercial operators results in large and fluctuating volumes of waste and poor site condition of transfer stations.

This further results in the need for extra services and even greater costs for waste services.

How do Boggabri and Wee Waa businesses dispose of their waste?

There is a business kerbside collection for general waste and comingled recyclables (not organic at this time). This includes businesses in Boggabri and Wee Waa.

Additional 240-litre and 360-litre garbage bins are available, at additional cost, for Boggabri and Wee Waa businesses.

All excess business waste is to be disposed of at either the Narrabri Waste Management Facility or by arrangement with local waste disposal companies.

Volumes of waste that require a skip bin should be sourced through local waste collection companies.

What about people who live on farms and need to dispose of their household waste?

The purpose of transfer stations is to service residents – including those who live on rural properties and do not receive a kerbside collection.

What about workers who remove waste for Boggabri and Wee Waa residents?

The Boggabri and Wee Waa transfer stations are available to residents and are only for residents' personal household waste.

Businesses are not eligible to dispose of waste at these transfer stations, this includes workers/handyman services removing waste for residents. This is a paid service including costs for the disposal of the waste.

Workers/handyman services must dispose of this waste at either the Narrabri Waste Management Facility or by arrangement with local waste disposal companies.

Where are the transfer stations located?

The Boggabri Transfer Station is located at 138 Aerodrome Road, Boggabri. The entrance can be seen when travelling just past the Boggabri Showground.

The Wee Waa Transfer Station is located on the 162 Vera Leap Road, outside the Wee Waa town levee bank. The entrance to the transfer station is on the right-hand side of the road when travelling from Wee Waa to Pilliga.

What are their opening hours?

The Boggabri and Wee Waa transfer stations are available to residents from 6.00am to 6.00pm daily.

How does Council ensure transfer stations are not being misused by businesses and commercial operators to dispose of waste?

Both transfer stations have CCTV. Misuse by business and commercial users will be reported as illegally dumped material to relevant authorities.
