The Narrabri Shire Youth Council’s second term held its first election on Thursday 8 February.

Jesse Weekes was elected Youth Mayor, Mietta Smith Youth Deputy Mayor, and Chloe Groth-Coleman Youth Secretary. They are joined by elected members Daniel Smith, Kaitlin Barnes and Kate Weekes.

Jesse Weekes and Mietta Smith were elected members for the first Youth Council term.

Narrabri Shire Youth Council is an advisory and advocacy committee made up of six members aged 14 to 24 years who live and work in the Shire.

It works collaboratively with local organisations to provide advice to Council on ways to enhance engagement with youth, identify gaps in service for youth and support youth events in the Shire.

Members also monitor the implementation of the Youth Strategy and provide recommendations for any updates to the document.

“I'm very happy with how our inaugural meeting went and I'm excited to help oversee the second term of the Youth Council,” newly-elected Mayor Jesse Weeks said.

“Last term, we started to get everything up and running and we were successful in that.

“This year, now with that experience and that it looks to be a good group of people, I can't wait to go on to bigger and better things.”
