Movie goers are set to have their cinematic experience taken to a new level following the completion of a significant upgrade at The Crossing Theatre.

The upgrade includes the installation of a new projector for Cinema 1, which uses next-generation laser technology with full P3 colour space. This means better clarity, contrast and uniformity – all resulting in an enhanced visual experience for the audience.

Further complementing the state-of-the-art projector is an audio upgrade, including a new processor and speakers. This audio equipment uses the latest technology to provide a crisp, clear sound.

Narrabri Shire Council Mayor Darrell Tiemens welcomed the upgrade and said movie goers will notice the difference.

“This update is the first for The Crossing Theatre since cinema projectors were upgraded to digital 13 years ago – from original reel projectors,” he said.

“The majority of the audio was also original to the building, so we very much welcome this upgrade to the latest audio technology for Cinema 1.

“Regular cinema goers will certainly notice these upgrades – from the crispness of the picture coupled with the intensity of the sound – resulting in greater movie immersion,” Cr Tiemens added.

The upgrade to Cinema 1 has been 18 months in the making, with the project part of Council’s 2024/2025 Capital Works Program.

Parts from the equipment being replaced in Cinema 1 will be used to get Cinema 2 operational again, following an audio fault earlier this year.

Cinema 2 is scheduled to be upgraded in the 2025/2026 Financial Year.
