Fresh from the completion of cinema upgrades at The Crossing Theatre, the Crossing Café kitchen is set to undergo upgrade works, while The Crossing Theatre will receive a fresh coat of paint.

The works will see the kitchen closed from Christmas Day, Wednesday, 25 December with an anticipated re-opening from 9.00am Monday, 3 February 2025. Council will keep the community informed as to any changes to this timeline.

The Crossing Café will operate at reduced capacity during this time – from Monday to Sunday, 9:30am to 2:00pm with coffee and cabinet items available.

Council’s Manager Entertainment and Leisure Services Ricky Mason said the works would result in significant improvements to the café’s kitchen facilities – ensuring the venue continues to comply with food and health standards, and maintains functionality and efficiency for years to come.

“This will include upgrading of the café’s kitchen cool rooms, resealing and waterproofing the area as well as replacing the cool room refrigeration units,” he said.

“In addition, the works will see the installation of new kitchen floor vinyl, replacement of the building’s fire safety system sensors and relocation of the electrical distribution board from inside the kitchen.”

Mr Mason also highlighted plans to refresh the exterior of The Crossing Theatre.

“The outside of the building will be repainted, giving it a fresh, modern look that aligns with the colour scheme of the Visitor Information Centre, creating a cohesive look across the precinct.”

Mr Mason said the month of January was chosen to undertake the renovations, as this was typically the quietest time for the Crossing Café and subsequent events.

“Of course, our cinemas will continue to operate with minimal interruption – so our community can continue to enjoy the best of movies over the summer period,” he added.

Narrabri Shire Mayor Darrell Tiemens said the kitchen upgrade would ensure the Crossing Café would continue to provide a quality dining and event experience.

“Following on from the recent cinema upgrades, it’s exciting that renovations are continuing at the complex, including the kitchen,” Cr Tiemens said.

“It will also be fantastic to see the outside of The Crossing Theatre get a fresh new look, complementing the Visitor Information Centre and enhancing the visitor experience of both spaces.”

Cr Tiemens thanked the community for their patience while works were underway.

“These upgrade works are a vital investment in The Crossing Theatre complex, a magnificent community asset that continues to remain a cornerstone of culture and entertainment for residents and visitors.

“I’d like to thank everyone for their continued patience while these works are underway, together with the community, I look forward to the full re-opening of the Crossing Café in early February.”
