The new Bullawa Creek Bridge has been officially opened by NSW Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Jenny Aitchison MP, Member for Barwon Roy Butler MP, and Narrabri Shire Council Mayor Darrell Tiemens.

The dual-lane concrete bridge replaces the old, single-lane timber structure that has been standing on Eulah Creek Road for over seventy years.

The new bridge successfully opened to motorists late last year.

Minister for Regional NSW the Hon. Tara Moriarty said the bridge upgrade will make a big difference to the local transport industry.

“I’m pleased to see the new concrete bridge open, giving drivers a safer bridge, especially in wet weather, which was not practical with the old wooden bridge,” Minister Moriarty said.

“Though the old wooden bridge served faithfully, surviving years of drought and flood, it was well past it’s use-by date”.

Minister for Regional Transport and Roads the Hon. Jenny Aitchison said a strong regional road network supports strong regional economies.

“Works like this that help our regional roads meet current day demands are just so important,” Minister Aitchison said.

“This upgrade will mean better access to goods for regional communities and better freight options and less wear and tear on trucks for our transport industry.”

Member for Barwon, Roy Butler, said “The community is pleased to finally have a replacement for the decades old bridge, which was picturesque but well past its use-by date.”

“Constructed in the 50s using World War II prefabricated Bailey Bridge technology, it was not designed for heavy transport. This replacement is something that was badly needed for so long. It is great to see a new bridge over the creek, which will be put to good use by residents, and will greatly improve transport in the region.”

Mayor Tiemens thanked Minister Aitchison and the Member for Barwon for their attendance at the ceremony.

“The old structure dutifully served her community through years of drought and over raging flood waters, but this new dual-lane structure is a great asset for locals and the Shire as a whole,” Cr Tiemens said.

“I’d like to acknowledge the State Government for their generous funding that has enabled us to replace this vital piece of infrastructure.

“I extend my thanks to the Minister and local member for their attendance today.”

The Bullawa Creek Bridge replacement was fully funded by the NSW Government.
