Narrabri Shire Council spreads Christmas Cheer
Published on 23 November 2023
As the holiday season approaches, Narrabri Shire Council is urging residents to boost the local economy and support businesses through shopping locally, enjoying Council’s Christmas Activation Program and taking advantage of the Why Leave Town (WLT) Gift Card initiative.
Council encourages everyone to explore, visit and spend with local businesses, ensuring that the festive season is not only joyful but economically beneficial for the region.
Narrabri Shire Mayor Darrell Tiemens emphasised the importance of supporting local businesses during the Christmas season, and fostering a strong sense of community,
"The Christmas season is a time for unity, generosity, and supporting one another,” Mayor Tiemens said.
“By choosing to shop locally, we not only celebrate the spirit of Christmas but also empower our community's businesses to thrive.
“We are fortunate to have a great variety of businesses, products and services available within Narrabri Shire, which makes it easy to shop local.”
The Narrabri Shire WLT Gift Card, now in its third year, has proven to be a popular choice for gifts, supporting over 135 businesses across the region.
“Since its inception, over 1.3 million dollars have been loaded onto cards, with 1.1 million already spent,” Cr Tiemens added.
“Currently, there is over $127,000 waiting to be spent with participating businesses, highlighting the program's positive impact on the local economy.”
Council is also excited to unveil its Christmas Activation Program, spanning Narrabri, Wee Waa and Boggabri, promising a diverse range of activities and events to spread holiday cheer. The towns will be adorned with enchanting festive decorations, creating a magical atmosphere for residents and visitors alike.
“In support of the local community, the Council is proud to back Christmas Carnival events organised by local business chambers,” Cr Tiemens added.
Events include the Wee Waa Chamber of Commerce Christmas Mardi Gras, the Narrabri Chamber of Commerce Christmas Carnival, and the Boggabri Business Chamber Christmas Carnival.
And in response to popular demand, the Christmas Pop-Up Shop returns for its third consecutive year, showcasing the talents of over 20 local creatives and home-based businesses.
Additionally, The Crossing Theatre's Community Christmas Carols on December 16, 2023, promises an enchanting evening filled with joy, music, and holiday spirit.
Local musicians will entertain the community on December 9 and 16 in Narrabri's CBD. Council's Parks and Gardens team will contribute to the festive ambiance by installing decorations in Boggabri, Wee Waa, and Narrabri CBD throughout December.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to capture these festive moments and share their photos using #NSC23Xmas on social media.
“Narrabri Shire Council invites everyone to make this holiday season memorable and full of joy by supporting local businesses and participating in the festive activities,” Cr Tiemens added.
