After receiving funding in November 2022 to undertake a Floodplain Risk Management Study (FRMS) and prepare a Flood Risk Management Plan (FRMP) for Boggabri, independent water consultant WRM Water & Environment has now commenced community consultation for the Study.

While previous flood studies for the Namoi River an Coxs Creek showed that Boggabri is moderately flood prone, Council wants to tap into the local knowledge of the Boggabri community to ensure that flood maps are consistent with historical flood behaviour and to identify protentional flood mitigations that should be considered.

Council is encouraging residents of Boggabri to provide their input, via a short survey. The survey will accompany a factsheet sent out to landowners but can also be completed online via the Council’s website or in person at the Boggabri Library.

“The Boggabri community knows their town best and their input is critical to ensuring that the FRMS and FRMP are effective in reducing the risk of flooding and improving the towns’ ability to respond and recover from flood events,” Mayor Ron Campbell said.

“I implore everyone to take the time to provide their feedback.”

The Boggabri Floodplain Survey closes March 10, 2023.
