Narrabri Shire Council is proud to commemorate the late John Brooks with a road named after the former Shire President. “Brooks Close” will be established in the new Maitland Street estate - serving as a lasting reminder of the dedication and selflessness that Mr Brooks embodied throughout his service.
Mr. Brooks, who sadly passed away in 2019, served as the Shire President in 1990, left an indelible mark on the Narrabri community through his dedicated service, particularly his instrumental role in preserving the region's historical legacy.
One of his notable achievements was his collaboration with the Narrabri & District Historical Society, where he championed the comprehensive compilation of war memorials, plaques, monuments, and personnel records. This extensive undertaking was a testament to Mr Brooks' dedication to honouring the sacrifices and contributions of those who served their country.
"John exemplified the spirit of community service and dedication to preserving our history. His commitment to documenting the war memorials and paying homage to our veterans is a testament to his unwavering passion," said Narrabri Mayor Ron Campbell.
"By naming a road in the new estate after him, we aim to ensure that his legacy remains a part of our community's identity for generations to come."
The decision to name a road in the new estate after Mr Brooks was met with overwhelming support from current members of Council. The road naming serves as a lasting reminder of Mr Brooks’ enduring legacy, encapsulating his passion for history, community, and progress.
The Narrabri Shire Council extends its gratitude to the Brooks family for their continued support and for allowing the community to honour Councillor John Brooks in this meaningful and lasting way.
