Last Thursday and Friday, Narrabri Shire hosted three Emergency Redi Workshops, facilitated by the Australian Red Cross and NSW SES, in Boggabri, Wee Waa, and Narrabri.

Participants gained valuable insights into emergency preparedness and recovery (focusing on their personal Emergency Redi Plan) and were equipped with practical tools to enhance their readiness for emergencies.

The workshops covered four key areas:

  • Get in the Know: Understanding the risks specific to your local area, including weather-related threats, how emergencies may disrupt your life, and identifying who can provide help.
  • Get Connected: Learning how to strengthen connections within the community to support each other in times of crisis.
  • Get Organised: Create a plan to minimise stress, save time, and streamline recovery efforts.
  • Get Packing: Preparing a practical emergency kit with essential items that will aid you during and after a disaster.

The NSW SES also shared valuable local insights, including lessons learned from the October 2022 floods.

Council would like to extend their thanks to all who made these workshops possible, including the Boggabri Memorial RSL Club, Wee Waa Bowls Club, Rotaract Club Wee Waa, Narrabri RSL, and Narrabri High School.

Attendees left with not only goodie bags but also the knowledge to plan, act, and contribute to making our Shire more resilient and better prepared for future natural disasters.
