Varroa mite Community Drop-In Centres

NSW Department of Primary Industries (NSW DPI) in collaboration with key stakeholders is continuing efforts to eradicate the Varroa mite (Varroa destructor) since first detected in sentinel hives at the Port of Newcastle in June 2022.

As the response continues, it’s critical that we continue to work together to eradicate this destructive pest.

NSW DPI will operate drop-in centres enabling community members to chat to NSW DPI staff with any questions about the response, permit requirements, owner reimbursement costs and hive registrations.

Resilience Officers will also be on hand to provide details about wellbeing and financial support services and providers.
