Harrisia Cactus Alert – Field Walk

HARRISIA CACTUS - Field Walk SM tile.png

An infestation of Harrisia Cactus has been found on Kiandool Lane, between Yarrie Lake Road and Culgoora Road (approx. 2km from either direction).

Local property owners are invited to join us for a field walk at 5.30pm on Wednesday, 30 October to see the cactus firsthand, understand the threat it poses, and learn how to control it.

Key things to know:

  • Harrisia Cactus spreads easily by birds, pigs, and ants.
  • Each plant can produce thousands of seeds.
  • Can degrade land, injure livestock, and puncture tyres.
  • Listed as Biosecurity Matter—landowners must report it to Council if found.

Act Now
The site has been sprayed to prevent further spread, but we need everyone’s help to keep it from spreading. Signs have been placed on-site this morning, so feel free to drop by anytime to check it out and see firsthand what you’re looking for on your own property.
