Monitor your own water usage!
Narrabri Shire Council is currently undertaking a project to install automatic meter reading (AMR) devices to all properties throughout Narrabri, Wee Waa, Boggabri, Bellata, Pilliga and Gwabegar Townships. These devices will also be installed in Baan Baa as part of the Baan Baa Water Supply Project which is currently under construction.
The device, which has been designed to fit closely to the water meter, will constantly measure volumetric use, reporting the information back to Council and the customer on an hourly basis. This report system allows customers to identify water leaks whilst Council can more accurately monitor pressure and flow throughout the network, ultimately reducing water bills and operational costs. As the devices are battery operated (no electricity required), there will be no running costs for the property owner and the devices are expected to last up to 15 years.
“The information collected by the devices will be available (in a secure format) to customers from a web-based water management tool,” explained Director Infrastructure Delivery, Darren Raeck. “Information will include daily usage, target usage, cost per day, alerts, report and the ability for the customer to correct the reading when they don’t match the billing system. The system is designed to be available year-round, not just when the bill arrives.”
The project will be commencing shortly, with a majority of the meters installed by 30 June 2017.
“Customers may experience periodic water interruptions while the devices are being fitted and small sections of garden may be disturbed as works are undertaken.
“Council staff will take care to disturb as little of the garden as possible and disconnect the water for as short a period as possible, however the works depend on the length of the street, location of the property and isolation valves.”
“Council staff will let residents know ahead of time via letter box drops when they should expect works to be occurring.”
The water meter project is being funded through Council’s Water Fund. The plan is to have all unmetered services metered by automatic meter readers by the end of the calendar year.
