|BAAN BAA WATER PROJECT GETS OFF THE GROUND (1-Mar-17)
Member for Barwon, Kevin Humphries, today announced that Narrabri Shire Council has awarded the construction tender of a new water supply system for Baan Baa.
Mr Humphries said today the people of Baan Baa are one step closer to having a secure and reliable supply of high-quality water.
“I am proud that the NSW Government has been able to contribute $2.2 million in funding from the Restart NSW Water Security for Regions program to Narrabri Shire Council for the delivery of this project,” Mr Humphries said.
Works will include the development of a production bore, rising mains, a reservoir and reticulation system into Baan Baa.
“This project will ensure a secure potable water supply to the township of Baan Baa via a new groundwater bore, which will remove the local community’s reliance on rainwater tanks,” Mr Humphries said.
“Not only will the system improve liveability of the township for locals but will also provide economic growth benefits to the region, including the local mining industry.”
Mr Humphries said the NSW Government is investing in the future of regional NSW through the development of this essential infrastructure.
“The Water Security for Regions program is an important way to help communities prepare for drought conditions and to improve water security across NSW,” Mr Humphries said.
Narrabri Shire Council Mayor, Cathy Redding also welcomed the commencement of this important project.
“Council has been working closely with the Baan Baa community and the NSW Government for a number of years to secure a water supply for their community.”
“Daracon Group was recently awarded the contract for the installation of tanks, pipeline and town water reticulation system with the project managed by Geolyse Pty Ltd. It is great to see that the contractor has taken possession of the site and will commence works shortly.”
“The result of a metered water supply to residents will be a great achievement for those who pushed for this project to happen and will provide ongoing benefits for this village into the future.”
The Baan Baa project is expected to be complete by the end of 2017 when metered water connections will become available throughout the village.
