Media Statement (1-Feb-17)

Council was pleased to hear that today, the long-awaited Santos Development Application and Environmental Impact Statement was submitted to NSW Department of Planning and Environment for assessment. It has been indicated that these documents will be placed on public exhibition within the next two to three weeks.

“I look forward to Council and the community having input in what will be a very comprehensive consultation process developed by Santos,” explained Mayor Cathy Redding. “A state significant project such as this needs to be thoroughly considered. Council will prepare a submission on behalf of the community based on the key factors it identifies, which both Santos and the State Government will be required to consider in the decision making process.”

Council is encouraging members of the community to get involved in the consultation process throughout the public exhibition period and also make a submission.

Following the public exhibition period, Santos will respond to the submissions received and further rigorous assessment will be made through the NSW Department of Planning and Environment prior to State Government determination on the project.
