Today, over 170 seniors enjoyed a lunch hosted at The Crossing Theatre to celebrate the 2017 Seniors Festival. The Seniors Festival is celebrated across Australia and is now in its 59th year. These events are a great way for Seniors to make new friends or get together with old ones.
Over lunch the announcement of the Narrabri Shire Senior of the Year for 2017 was made with the prize being awarded to Pat Baker.
Pat was nominated for her willingness to help others in the community. Her caring and thoughtful nature and community involvement is much appreciated by the community. Despite being a carer for her husband, Pat is involved in many community groups including View Club, The Whiddon Group Auxiliary, Young at Heart Friendship Group, Narrabri Hospital Auxiliary and Meals on Wheels.
Pat is often seen in the main street of Narrabri selling raffle tickets, working on the street stall or at the Woolworths BBQ for one of the various groups of which she is a member. Pat is one of the founding members of the Young at Heart Friendship Group which often has an active role in organising Seniors Festival events and provides companionship for Seniors in Narrabri.
Pat is a Board Member on the Meals on Wheels committee and delivers meals several times a month on their roster. She is also on the Whiddon Group Auxiliary and visits with the elderly there regularly.
Congratulations to Pat – a well-deserved winner of the Narrabri Shire Senior of the Year Award.
