Member for Barwon, Kevin Humphries yesterday announced that triennial funding under the 2017 Flagship Event Fund has been granted to Boggabri Drovers’ Campfire by Destination NSW. This funding consists of $27,500 over the next 3 years which can be used to support marketing activities, increasing visibility and visitation for the event outside of the region.
Council’s Tourism Manager, Penny Jobling was thrilled to hear of the announcement. “This is a great accomplishment for the Drovers’ Campfire organising committee and Council who assisted with their grant application,” she said.
“This generous funding from Destination NSW will allow the Drovers’ Campfire organisers to really take the event to the next level and promote it far and wide across not only NSW but our neighbouring states.”
The Flagship Event Fund is targeted on events that contribute to the unique character and culture of the tourism regions of NSW.
“Drovers' most certainly ticks the box for being unique and is an excellent example of how a regional event can attract visitors from outside of its immediate region,” explained Ms Jobling.
“Since its inception in 2006, Drovers' Campfire has grown from attracting 29 caravans to becoming a Flagship event for NSW tourism!”
“In 2016, Drovers' hosted 500 caravans and this year can expect this number to grow with the additional marketing funds now available to be utilised.”
“The committee are working hard to keep the event “fresh” and sustainable into the future and continuously look at new ways to promote to a wider audience.”
“The Boggabri community and Council are both very proud of this event. They have a huge portfolio of awards and have been very successful in attracting funding to support their event which is a testament to the passion of the organising committee.”
The event has truly put this small town on the map.
